What to visit in Cavalese

Cavalese, situated in the heart of Fiemme Valley, possesses many buildings and places of high historical value that deserve to be visited or at least seen from the outside.
Among the places of greatest interest are:

  • The Civic Tower of San Sebastiano whose bell tower, built long before the church of San Sebastiano and Fabiano, was used as a bell tower and served to call and gather the population in cases of imminent danger.
  • The church of San Vigilio, appreciated for the sloping roof and the gable on the main facade, with the cross of Lorraine carved into the wall and the Franciscan convent, built between 1685 and 1689. These two places of worship contain works of high artistic and historical value and are worthy to be visited.
  • The historic library Muratori founded in 1756 and which can be visited by appointment.

The  Pieve Park

Another place you should to absolutely visit during your holiday in Cavalese is the Pieve Park together with the Church of Santa Maria Assunta which is located inside the park.

The building has numerous frescoes painted by

.Antonio Longo.

The wonderful Pieve Park frames the Church which in the past has been the heart of social, religious and economic life of the Fiemme Valley; now it is a place where you find peace and quiet and where you can take, children to play at the beautiful playground and from where you can enjoy a wonderful view over the entire Fiemme Valley.

This is a green area populated by Linden trees, and therein lies the so-called “Banco de la Reson”, consisting of two stone wheels placed around a round table in the center.

The Palace of the Magnifica Comunità of Fiemme

The Palace of the Magnifica Comunità of Fiemme, which stands in the center of Cavalese, is the main historical building of the valley and is an institution still functions, that was created as a temporary seat for the Vicar of the Prince Bishop of Trento and subsequently became the fixed seat of the same.

The Magnifica Comunità of Fiemme today still administers over 20,000 hectares of woods, pastures and numerous buildings.
This local institution has preserved a great autonomy over time and today is still the administrative center of the valley.
In 2009, the Palazzo was intended to be a museum-art gallery and is currently the cultural point of reference for the inhabitants of the valley.

Just a few meters from the Magnifica Comunità you can find the Palazzo Firmian, seat of the contemporary art center of Cavalese which is renewed every year with temporary art exhibitions of a high level.

This location provides great joy to the lovers of Alpine skiing: from here you can take the skilifts of the Alpe Cermis.
