Val di Fiemme

The origins of the Fiemme Valley

The Fiemme Valley is one of the main valleys of the Dolomites and it is located in the eastern part of Trentino.

Its history has its origins in the Mesolithic age about 6000 years ago, even if the first human settlements date back to the Neolithic period.
This area was in fact favored by many hunters by virtue of the game that populated the valley.
The Fiemme Valley, in 1000 AD became part of the Bishopric of Trento, while in 1111 AD the Magnifica Comunità of Fiemme was founded.

The valley is also known by the name of Valley of the Painters: it is, in fact, the birthplace of several artists including Cristoforo, Francesco Sebaldo, Francesco Antonio, and Antonio Longo.

The Magnifica Comunità of Fiemme

The Magnifica Comunità of Fiemme, established in 1111 AD is a local authority which administers and maintains the natural heritage of the valley and represents for all the inhabitants of the valley a symbol of self-determination and care of their environment.

Over 20,000 hectares of pastures, woods, and mountains are in fact under the jurisdiction of the Magnifica Comunità, whose headquarters are located in Cavalese, the Palace of which can be visited, but you can also appreciate it even only by passing through the center of the village.

Starting from the end of the fifteenth century, the Palace also housed the local prison that remained in operation until the end of the nineteenth century, which bears witness to the fact that for a long period this millenial authority was also in charge of justice.

The Fiemme Valley in winter

The Fiemme Valley in winter is one of the favorite destinations of skiers, who appreciate the skiable areas available: Alpe Cermìs, Ski Center Latemar (Alpe di Pampeago, Predazzo, Obereggen), Bellamonte-Alpe Lusia, Passo Rolle, and Lavazè -Oclini.
A total of over 100 kilometers of Alpine pistes is accessible, with a single ski pass, the Fiemme-Obereggen pass, ensuring access to 50 lifts, and provides you with free entry to the Ice Rink and the Municipal Swimming-pool upon purchase of a multiday ski pass.

For those who wish to practice cross-country skiing there are about 150 kilometers of cross country tracks divided between the Sporting center of Lago di Tesero – venue for the World Championships, the track of the famous Marcialonga, and the enchanting Passo Lavazé.

All these ski resorts are also reachable thanks to the skibus service included in the FiemmE-Motion Winter card that also offers several activities organized for you to enjoy your holiday at its best in the Fiemme Valley.

The Fiemme Valley in Summer

Fiemme Valley is a synonym for uncontaminated nature and the numbers speak clearly: thirty thousand hectares of forests, sixty million trees, two natural parks, and a vast amount of paths and trails.
It suffices to say that only a very small part of the entire territory is occupied by urban areas.

The summer in Fiemme Valley is beloved by all those who appreciate the mountains, fresh air, and sports in the open air and it is a true paradise for families where the mountain holiday together with your children is transformed into an exciting and new experience every day.

Cycling, hiking, excursions, and also sport fishing and paragliding are just some of the activities that this season is able to offer

Thanks to the FiemmE-Motion Card, you can use the lifts for free to easily reach a high altitude and thus enjoy an activity with marvelous views as well as a a rich weekly program of the activities organized.

The Natural Park of Paneveggio – Pale di San Martino

The Natural Park of Paneveggio is also known by the name of “Forest of the Violins”, due to the numerous Spruce trees spanning the centuries from which the master craftsmen make the sound boards for pianos and violins.

It is surely one of the places not to be missed in the summer, because of the beauty of its landscape and the rich local fauna, which includes deer, chamois, Ibexes and other smaller species such as the hare, the fox, the marmot and the unsurpassed panorama of the Pale di San Martino which surrounds it.

It extends for almost 20 thousand hectares and is one of the most beautiful natural and appreciated parks in Italy.

The Natural Park Monte Corno

The Natural Park of Monte Corno is an Alpine landscape very different from that of Paneveggio, and is the ideal place for those who love to discover nature in all its forms.

Among all the natural parks of Trentino and Alto Adige, in fact this is the one that includes the largest variety of flora and fauna in only 6850 hectares.

Geopark Bletterbach

The Bletterbach or Rio Ora is just 20km away from our hotel and is one of the favorite destinations of our guests. It is the biggest canyon in Europe with a good 8 km length and 400 meters depth and is visited every year by more than 60 thousand people.

This UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE allows you to look at the geology of the mountains and discover the history of the Dolomites and thanks to the museum, the Geopark Bletterbach gives you an idea of how it could have been on Earth in a period that goes back to 286 to 210 million years ago.

The visitor center, the geological museum, and the canyon are closed during the winter months. It is possible to visit the site in Summer every day from 09.30 to 18.00, from 29 April to 31 October 2018 inclusive.
